# Privacy Policy

## 1. Introduction
StarRank ("StarRank," "the App," "we," "us," or "our") is a mobile
application that lets users rate individual film and television
performances. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect
through the App, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices
available to you. It applies to the StarRank iOS application and is
incorporated by reference into our [Terms of Service](/terms).
By creating an account or otherwise using the App, you agree to the
collection and use of information as described in this Privacy Policy.
## 2. Information We Collect
**2.1 Account Information** — When you create an account, we — through our
backend infrastructure provider, Supabase (see Section 4) — collect:
- Email address
- Password, stored by Supabase in encrypted/hashed form — StarRank never
stores or has access to your plaintext password
- The username you choose
- Your display name
**2.2 Profile Information**
- A bio you optionally write
- A profile photo — this is not an uploaded photo. You choose one of
five fixed avatar icons built into the App. We do not access your camera,
photo library, or any images stored on your device.
- Your favorite actors and performances
**2.3 Ratings and Activity** — The performances and movies you rate, the
numeric score you give them, and your friends list (other StarRank users you
connect with in the App) are stored locally on your device. This
activity — along with your badges and in-app notifications — is not
transmitted to or stored on our servers, except where it overlaps with
Sections 2.1–2.2 above (e.g. your username).
**2.4 Information We Do Not Collect** — StarRank does not collect, and the
App does not request permission to access:
- Your location
- Your contacts
- Your camera or photo library
- Advertising identifiers or data for ad targeting
- Any data through third-party analytics or crash-reporting tools — the App
does not currently integrate any such SDKs
**2.5 Automatically Collected Information** — Like most apps that connect to
the internet, ordinary technical information (such as your device's IP
address) may be logged by our infrastructure providers as a normal part of
handling network requests — by Supabase, and by the third-party image host
we use for movie/actor photos (TMDB, see Section 4). We do not use this
information to build an advertising profile of you.
## 3. How We Use Information
We use the information described above to:
- Create and secure your account, and authenticate you when you sign in
- Operate the core features of the App — ratings, your profile, and social
features
- Communicate with you about your account, such as confirming your email
- Maintain the security and integrity of the App
- Comply with our legal obligations
**We do not sell your personal information**, and we do not use it for
third-party advertising.
## 4. Third-Party Services
StarRank relies on the following third parties to operate:
**Supabase — backend infrastructure.** Supabase hosts our authentication
system and database, and stores the account information described in
Sections 2.1–2.2 on our behalf, acting as our data processor. Supabase's own
privacy practices are described at [supabase.com/privacy](https://supabase.com/privacy).
**The Movie Database (TMDB) — catalog images.** We display movie posters and
actor photos sourced from TMDB's public image library. Loading these images
makes a standard network request to TMDB's image servers. StarRank does not
integrate a TMDB account and does not send your personal data to TMDB. This
product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
We do not share your personal information with any other third party except
as described here, as required by law, or with your consent.
## 5. Data Storage & Security
Account data (Sections 2.1–2.2) is stored by Supabase using
industry-standard security practices, including encryption in transit. Most
of your in-app activity (Section 2.3) is stored locally on your device,
under Apple's own platform security protections.
No method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we
cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your
account password confidential.
## 6. Data Retention
We retain your account information for as long as your account remains
active. If you delete your account (see Section 7.1), we permanently delete
your account record from our backend, and the App clears your locally
stored ratings, friends, notifications, and other activity from your device.
## 7. Your Rights & Choices
**7.1 Deleting your account** — You can permanently delete your StarRank
account at any time from Settings within the App. This immediately and
permanently deletes your account from our backend and clears your local
data. This action cannot be undone.
**7.2 Access and correction** — You can review and update your profile
information — name, username, bio, avatar — at any time from within the App.
**7.3 Additional rights** — Depending on where you live, you may have
additional rights over your personal information — see Sections 9 and 10.
## 8. Children's Privacy
StarRank is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent
minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal
information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with
personal information, please contact us at the address in Section 12 and we
will take steps to delete it.
## 9. California Privacy Rights
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act
(CCPA), as amended by the CPRA, may give you the right to request access to,
deletion of, or details about the personal information we hold about you,
and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
**We do not sell or share personal information** as those terms are defined
by the CCPA. To exercise these rights, contact us using the information in
Section 12.
## 10. European Users (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or
Switzerland, our legal basis for processing your information is generally
your consent (when you create an account) and our legitimate interest in
operating the App. You have the right to access, correct, delete, or export
your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To
exercise these rights, contact us using the information in Section 12. Where
our infrastructure providers process data outside your country of
residence, such transfers are made subject to appropriate safeguards.
## 11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material
changes, we will notify you by updating the "Last Updated" date above and,
where appropriate, through the App. Your continued use of the App after a
change becomes effective constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

## 13. Limitation of Liability Regarding Data
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, StarRank and its
owner(s), officers, and personnel are not liable for any indirect,
incidental, or consequential damages arising out of or related to
unauthorized access to, alteration of, or destruction of your data, except
where caused by our gross negligence or willful misconduct. See our
